Countryside from my past

When I think of Aisne, images of fields come to mind. Fields after fields, with sometimes a few cows or sheep grazing. Some very old brick houses and barns. Very old ads on walls. Every time we visited our cousins, I felt like I returned to my childhood. Nothing ever changed. I was told that it still looks the same.

Beautiful colza fields can be found everywhere in Picardie. They truly look awesome.
It's a pleasure to drive by in the spring or summer.

Poppies are my favorite. They remind me of my childhood, and a little story that happened to me, and that still makes me laugh. They're so fragile. I wish I had poppies to look at every day.

  1. This is such a great idea Ariel! I would love to hear more about where you grew up and about France. I had two older brothers serve missions in France and honestly I had no idea it was so beautiful. Thanks for doing this!

  2. So cool! Where did they serve? If it was in the north, then there is a big chance they've been around Picardie :)
    Thanks for visiting!

  3. Ariel, I am so glad that you told me about your blog! I have enjoyed reading it. I did not know you grew up in such a neat area of France. What beautiful countryside! It sounds like a lovely village with a lot of history. Does your family know you are doing this, too? Thanks for sharing your blog address with me!

  4. Did you take these pictures? They're wonderful. When is the last time you were there?

  5. Unfortunately, I didn't take these pictures. I haven't been there in many, many years...
I explained on the first post that I had to get the pictures online or from friends because I only have a few. All of my photo albums are in France. Some got lost when the car was stolen :(

J: I can't recognize who you are (Julie or one of the Julias?) but thank you. I grew up in that area until a few days before my 5th birthday. Then we moved to Compiègne. I'm going to talk about that town soon. Keep reading!
Oh, and I haven't told my family yet about this blog.

  6. Bonjour Ariel,

It's a funny coincidence that you're from l'Aisne, and that you chose one my photograph ( the Colza fields) to illustrate your blog, because I am not only french but I am from Saint-Quentin, just a few miles away from where that colza fields picture was taken!
I'm glad you like the shot! :)
